Our Process

The Process of Designing Custom Cabinets

Our process begins with your consultation, where we discuss your cabinet needs and look at the space to review our options. After our initial consult, our team prepares digital drawings of your custom design for review. Measurements are taken and details are worked out through phone calls, or additional on-site consultations. Once details are set and cabinets are manufactured, our team prepares for installation.

Here are some frequently asked questions regarding our process…

How long will our install take…  This really depends on size and scope of the project.  We have had installations that lasted 3-4 hours and others that have taken 3-4 weeks.  A typical kitchen remodel installation takes approx 2 days. While we understand that timing is an important factor to you, and to our business, providing quality work is always our goal.  We want an install that is done properly with the pride of craftsmanship and ownership that our installers possess. Whether this takes hours or days it takes as long as it should to be done correctly!

What is a typical cabinet timeline and schedule…  Timelines are determined by current client projects and the size and scope of a project.  Large, full house cabinet projects have a longer timeline than a kitchen, or bath remodel.  We strive to have unfinished cabinets ready for install 5 weeks from sign off, and finished cabinets ready in 7 weeks.  Specific timelines are discussed during the planning and drawing phases of each project.

What materials do you typically use…  Our standard is an all wood cabinet.  This means that we use veneer core plywood for the cabinet box and back, then we use hardwood for the doors, drawer fronts and frames.  We also offer the more cost effective option of an mdf or particle board cabinet box. While each material has it’s pros and cons, they all make for a great looking cabinet.  We can further discuss the pros and cons of each during our initial consultation and budget talks. As far as the hardwood options, we use several suppliers for hardwood in the dfw area so the possibilities are endless depending on the look and finish you desire!

Where/how are our cabinets manufactured…  Douglas Cabinets is located in Greenville, Tx.  Upon sign off of your order, we have raw lumber and plywood delivered to our 17,000 sq ft shop where our craftsman begin cutting and milling the raw materials into your custom cabinets.  What comes in as stacks of raw material move through our shop via saws, CNC equipment, shapers and sanders to come out as customized pieces of art for your home!
